Course details

In this course, we will provide you with an in-depth understanding of patient blood management. We will also discuss the importance of minimising the risks associated with blood transfusions and the management of blood stocks.

The course is divided into seven sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of blood transfusion and it’s alternatives. The first section will introduce you to the course objectives and provide an overview of the topics that will be covered. In the second section, we will define blood transfusion and its pillars, providing you with a solid foundation for the course.

In the third section, we will explore alternative treatments to blood transfusion, including the use of blood substitutes and other medical treatments. The fourth section will focus on strategies for minimising the risks associated with blood transfusions, including testing and screening procedures and identifying patient-specific factors.

The fifth section will explore the management of blood stocks, including storage, transport, and distribution. In the sixth module, we will examine traceability, quality, and governance frameworks in place to ensure the safe and effective use of blood products. Finally, we will summarise the key points covered in the course.

We will use video tutorials with English captions and an end-of-course assessment that awards a certificate upon successful completion.
